SOMMERAKADEMIE IN TAINACH/KÄRNTEN

Die Sommerakademie vom 19.-22. August stand unter dem Zeichen "Europa quo vadis?" Es ging um die europäische Identität als außenpolitisches Instrument der Europäischen Union. Was macht Europa in in einem multipolaren Zeitalter harter Realpolitik und gegenseitigem Wettkampf als globalen Akteur aus? ine kurze Bestandsaufnahme und Synthese stützt sich auf zwei zentrale Argumentationslinien: den kritischen Blick auf die prägenden Faktoren des Zeitgeschehens und die Deutung des Einigungswerks der EU in der Gegenwart. Aus beiden Perspektiven lässt sich die EU als friedenspolitischer Akteur in der Welt neu positionieren. Hier geht's zum Vortrag.

12 OCTOBER AT UNIVERSITY OF GRAZ: BOOK PRESENTATION

Interested in restarting economic multilateralism? Jörn Kleinert, professor of international economics, will present his new volume 4 of the NSM Series, On a Restart of Economic Multilateralism, in the context of the Global Studies main lecture by Ursula Werther-Pietsch. His book is bold and thought-provoking. He clearly outlines the weaknesses and inability of Keynesian institutions to adapt, predicts the downfall of the multilateral trading system, and argues that the benefits of specialization get caught up in U.S. Pres. Trump’s protectionism. It’s full of inspiring ideas on how to shape a world economy that works for today and tomorrow. Join us for our lecture on 12 October at 12:00 p.m. in HS 15.14.

Alexandra Kurth, Reinhard Heinisch, Friedarike Santner und Ursula Werther-Pietsch werden am Europäischen Demokratiekongress in Wien Band 5 der NSM Series vorstellen: Contested Democracy in the Multipolar Era mit Beiträgen von Constantinos Adamides, University of Nicosia/Cyprus, Vivien Schönberger vom Team Europe Democracy, Friedarike Santner und Christopher Okidi, Kampala Analytica, Martin Kreutner, (frm) Dean der Internationalen Anti-Korruptionsakademie, Willi Sandrisser, dem Organisator des Kongresses - mit herzlichem Dank! - und einem Vorwort der Frau Außenministerin Beate Meinl-Reisinger. Wir prüfen den Stand von Demokratie und Auswege aus der Krise.

Das Buch erscheint im Oktober bei NOMOS.
